The following are videos edited by Yvonne Pierre in effort to promote awareness.  Please talk a moment to check them out and share them.  Thank you for your support!

My son, Zyon is a huge fan of Justin Bieber. This is a video of him dancing to “Somebody to love” (remix) by Justin Bieber featuring Usher

We were watching the video and I noticed Zyon was doing the steps and I grabbed the camera. You see, Zyon didn’t sit up on his own until almost 1 year old. He didn’t crawl until he was almost 2 years old. He was about 2 1/2 before he began to walk on his own. He began to talk clearer at 5 years old. My son, Zyon was diagnosed with Down syndrome (T21) after birth. Zyon’s now 8 years old and he has taught us so much… to never give up hope, love unconditionally and to never stop dancing!

My son, Zyon was diagnosed with Down syndrome (T21) after birth.

We were told by a doctor…
“don’t get your hopes up high you’ll be luck if he can tie his shoes…”
“he will not be a contribution to society…”
“I am sorry this happened to you…”
“next time we can test you early enough to abort.”

Wow, OMG, I was shocked. I thought, “you do realize you’re talking about a human being?” I was more hurt by what the doctor said versus Zyon’s diagnoses.

When I tell God-fearing people that Zyon has DS, I often receive the sad look following by “I’m sorry this happened to you… are you okay?”

The message in this video is that we are ALL God’s children, not just those who are considered “normal.” Of course we want our children to be health; however, DS does not mean that they will NOT be healthy. On the other hand, not having DS does not mean the child WILL be healthy.

We all imperfect! Children with disabilities are God’s children too.

Of course, it’s a challenge having a child with special needs; however, parenting is a challenge. I have two boys one with DS and one without, it’s not that much of a difference.
